Small Groups
Last update 05/12/2008

Small Groups are one of the two hubs of our ministry. They are a place where we encourage, support, and challenge one another. In Sermon-based Small Groups we develop significant Christian relationships and we experience community at a deeper level. These groups are designed for adults and are open to everyone regardless of your previous experience or knowledge. Everyone is truly welcomed.

Small groups of 6-12 adults meet for 8-10 weeks three times a year. We sign-up for groups in the foyer in September for the Fall Quarter (late September to early December), in January for the Winter Quarter (mid January to the end of March) and in April for the Spring Quarter (mid April to early June). During the summer groups do not gather weekly, however, groups may meet occasionally for fellowship and fun.

Some Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Sermon-Based Small Group?
Sermon-Based Small Groups are weekly gatherings of 6-12 adults who meet in a home with the direction of trained leaders and hosts. A typical meeting last for an hour and a half. The group spends time in prayer, in discussion based on the Sunday sermon and the question sheet from the Sunday worship folder, and in getting to know each other better.

What is the commitment?
We ask each person to commit to regular attendance in a group for one quarter (8-10 weeks). At the end of a quarter the commitment is over. The next quarter a person may sign-up with the same group, join a different group, or not be in a group that quarter. There is great flexibility in our program.

How do I sign up?
Church wide sign-ups begin the weeks before the start of each new session (September, January, and April). People may also join a group mid-session if there is still space to add to that group.

What about childcare?
Small Group Fellowships are for adults only (exceptions are made for nursing babies). We leave it up to each family to work out their own childcare.

What are some of the advantages of sermon-based small groups?
These groups give us a great opportunity to increase honesty and transparency. We can relax and be ourselves. The small size and warmth of a host home allows us to get to know and trust one another at a deeper level. The connection to the sermon increases the impact of the message and allows us to explore the Bible in a way that really applies to our lives. In small groups we interact with the message we heard on Sunday and we hear the insights and applications of others in our group - we all grow together.
